New Funding Opportunity for Private Photovoltaic Operators: Baden-Württemberg relaunches the BW-e-Solar Voucher

Photovoltaic system operators in Baden-Württemberg can now make their dream of using self-generated energy to charge their electric car a reality with a new funding opportunity.

Photovoltaic system operators that once dreamed of using self-generated energy to charge their electric car can now make that dream a reality with a new opportunity arising – at least if they reside in Baden-Württemberg. As part of the “State Initiative III Market Growth Electromobility BW”, the BW-e-Solar voucher has been relaunched as an added incentive for switching to electromobility.

As much as €1,000 per electric vehicle (EV)

A subsidy of up to €1,000 is now available to help individuals with the maintenance and operating costs of newly registered fully electric vehicles equipped with battery or fuel cell drives, as long as the vehicle is registered and used primarily in Baden-Württemberg. Furthermore, the additional purchase of a wallbox can also be supported – the only precondition being that it must be supplied directly from the photovoltaic system. The subsidy per wallbox/vehicle can reach up to €500.

Subsidies limited to 160 kW and 100 vehicles per year.

To be eligible for funding one must first satisfy the following requirements: The EV must be equal to or less than 160 kW and belong to one of the following vehicle classes: 1.) passenger car, 2.) four-wheeled (light) motor vehicle, 3.) light commercial vehicle up to 3.5 t (EC vehicle classes L6e and L7e, M1 and N1). Not only private owners, but companies, institutions, corporations and freelancers can also apply for financial support, although a funding limit of 100 vehicles per year applies. Finally, subsidized vehicles must have been in use for at least three years – also applies to wallbox funding. Applications can be submitted as early as December. Older vehicles already registered are not eligible.

Funding opportunities outside Baden-Württemberg

Don’t meet these requirements? The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport has posted advice on what to do next at https://www.e-mobilbw.de/service/foerderinformationen, with other ministries or even the federal government offering other funding opportunities. Information on how your photovoltaic system equipped with home storage can be converted into a private wallbox for EV charging, and whether such a private bio-PV charging station pays off, can be found in another recent blog post.

Home storage for PV systems

For a personal solar system to charge EVs, they must be equipped with a battery – an area which has made a lot of progress in recent years. Just this March, LG Energy Solutions unveiled its latest generation of RESU home storage units that set a new standard for performance. These next-gen storage units have been specifically designed to provide consumers with a whole new level of freedom through energy self-sufficiency, and its innovative modular design ideal for both experts and beginners. This next-gen home storage solution increases energy content by 9 percent and efficiency by 5.8 percent – bringing efficiency levels to well over 90 percent. As the industry’s largest home storage unit, the LG RESU16H Prime model can effectively power an entire home – providing 16kWh of usable energy per unit. The LG RESU10H Prime model is the RESU lineup’s entry-level solution. For more details on the latest RESU batteries, click here.
