The LG PRIME unites the advantages of NMC cell technology like no other energy storage system. Known for high energy density and performance in a compact space, NMC cells power the LG PRIME. Available as 10H with 10 kWh and 16H with 16 kWh, the LG PRIME meets typical homeowner needs, capable of operating a heat pump or charging an electric car effortlessly.
Advanced Battery Technology and Higher Energy Density in the LG PRIME
With over 30 years of experience in Li-Ion battery technology, LG Energy Solution is a globally recognized manufacturer of safe and reliable batteries. Our expertise is built on a portfolio of 55,794 patents and partnerships with global brands like Mercedes, Apple, and Bosch. The LG PRIME features advanced NMC pouch cells produced using a more intricate process where the anode, cathode, and separator are stacked. This method offers significant advantages over the winding process used by competitors. More energy can be stored and discharged in less space, resulting in higher energy density for the LG PRIME. Additionally, it reduces the formation of microcracks that occur over hundreds of cycles. The wound layers of a cylindrical cell deform over time, leading to delamination. Consequently, the degradation of available storage capacity in competitors’ products is faster than in the LG PRIME.
Efficiently Powering Heat Pumps and Electric Cars with Solar Energy from the LG PRIME
The LG PRIME energy storage system uses safe NMC cells with high energy density, providing substantial storage capacity in a compact space. With up to 11 kW peak power, the PRIME can easily handle high inrush currents, ensuring a reliable supply for your household appliances. Typical heavy users like a modern three-phase heat pump for an average single-family home require up to 4-5 kW in continuous operation. The minimum discharge power of the PRIME 10H with 4.6 kW easily covers this demand. Additionally, your electric car can be charged with several kWh in the evening after work. Assuming an average commute of 40 km with a consumption of around 18 kWh/100km, the necessary ~7 kWh can be provided by a PRIME 16H (16 kWh), leaving enough reserve to cover the base load overnight.
LG PRIME is Easy to Install Thanks to Its Compact Dimensions and Modular Design
The compact design of the LG PRIME, with a footprint of only 504 x 295 mm, allows for easy integration even into the smallest basement spaces. Due to its high energy density, the LG PRIME is about 30% more compact than comparable storage systems from competitors. The modular design, consisting of a control unit and two battery modules, greatly facilitates transport and installation. Depending on the model, the PRIME can also be wall-mounted, possible for the PRIME 10H. Note that the 3ph-Box from LG Energy Solution must be installed between the PRIME and three-phase hybrid inverters. This is a separate overvoltage protection device that is integrated between the inverter and energy storage with minimal effort. For operation with single-phase inverters, the 3ph-Box is not necessary. After installation, the LG PRIME can be monitored via the inverter’s monitoring app, and settings can be made in the RESU Monitor app from LG Energy Solution.
LG PRIME is Compatible with Inverters from Popular Manufacturers like SUNGROW and Solis
The LG PRIME is an energy storage system without its own inverter. It connects to a hybrid or storage inverter to store excess power from the solar system. Both single-phase and three-phase inverters can be connected.
Compatible three-phase inverters include:
- SUNGROW SH-RT / SH-RT-20: One of the most installed hybrid inverters, available from 5 to 10 kW. The SH-RT is known for its high storage charging current of 30 amperes, integrated three-phase backup function, and affordable price.
- Solis S6: One of the few hybrid inverters with up to four MPP trackers, ideal for orienting the solar system in multiple directions. It also includes a robust three-phase backup function and is priced as attractively as the SH-RT.
- For both hybrid inverters, the 3ph-Box from LG Energy Solution must be installed between the PRIME and the inverter. This is possible with minimal effort and protects the energy storage from voltages above 600 volts.
Compatible single-phase inverters include:
- LG Energy Solution SHH: The SHH hybrid inverter is LG Energy Solution’s solution for small solar systems up to around 10 kWp. The four MPP trackers of the SHH make it especially suitable for complex roofs and allow system designs with multiple directions. A backup function is also integrated.
- SolarEdge SE2200-10000H: The popular provider SolarEdge has a PV inverter that can be expanded with the LG PRIME via the StorEdge interface. The many power classes from 2.2 kW to 10 kW are practical, matching individual requirements. For those with partially shaded roofs, SolarEdge power optimizers are integrated into the system.
- SMA Sunny Boy Storage: The storage inverter from SMA is ideal for older solar systems with a PV inverter that should be supplemented with a storage solution. Combined with the SBS, the LG PRIME can also supply the household with power on one phase during a power outage.
Conclusion
The LG PRIME energy storage system combines the strengths of NMC cell technology with exceptionally high energy density and performance. It is easy to install and compatible with inverters from popular manufacturers. Two variants, with 10 or 16 kWh, cover the needs of all private households.
